Important distinctions between:
Health service providers (HSPs): as defined in section 2 of the Local Health System Integration Act, 2006 (LHSIA), which may be funded by transfer payment funding under section 19(1) of LHSIA.
Service providers (contracted service providers): as defined in the Home Care and Community Services Act, 1994 (HCCSA), from which LHINs purchase service with LHIN operating funding. These providers are often called contracted service providers. They provide HCCSA service on behalf of the LHIN. Services that the LHIN would otherwise provide directly itself.
