Regional Clinical Viewer Closes Accessibility Gap
Dr. Andrea Steen, Vice President of Medical Affairs at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare in Windsor, had a problem: A patient had received an MRI in Hamilton that she needed to see – but the results were almost 300 kms away.
“The ortho had not copied me and we wanted to discuss the results together,” said Dr. Steen, (pictured at left) a former Olympic athlete who also works at Windsor Regional Hospital and is in family practice with three other physicians.
Fortunately, Dr. Steen had just become an authorized user of cSWO’s Regional Clinical Viewer, ClinicalConnect™: a secure, web-based portal that provides physicians and clinicians with real-time access to their patients' electronic medical information from all acute care hospitals, Community Care Access Centres (CCACs) and Oncology Centres in south west Ontario, plus two provincial data repositories.
“I used ClinicalConnect to get the MRI results on my patient and it worked like a charm,” Dr. Steen said. “It’s very exciting.”
Dr. Steen is one of more than 600 authorized ClinicalConnect users in the Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network (ESC LHIN) where the cSWO Program’s delivery partner, TransForm Shared Service Organization (TransForm), is hard at work showing new clinicians how to access the interface every day. The cSWO Program is one of eHealth Ontario’s regional integration initiatives, enabling the province to achieve an electronic health record (EHR) solution for all Ontarians.
