Resources for Integration

The Local Health System Integration Act, 2006 (the ‘Act’) was passed to (link):

“provide for an integrated health system to improve the health of Ontarians through better access to high quality health services, coordinated health care in local health systems and across the province and effective and efficient management of the health system at the local level by Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs).”

The Act places an obligation on LHINs and on Health Service Providers to identify opportunities to integrate services through a broad range of activities including co-ordination, partnering with others, and transferring, merging or amalgamating services. The policies and resources in this section of the Erie St. Clair LHINs website have been developed to promote awareness of integration responsibilities according to the Act, and to provide clarity regarding the process and tools available to advance integration initiatives.

Many of you may also be aware of a Toolkit, titled Local Health Integration Network / Health Service Provider Governance Resource and Toolkit for Voluntary Integration Initiatives that was developed through a joint initiative of five Local Health Integration Networks, associations representing health service providers funded through the LHINs, and the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. This resource is very comprehensive and contains a wide variety of templates.

The Erie St. Clair LHIN has used the act and the Governance Resource and Toolkit to help tailor integration resources for our LHIN. We look forward to working collaboratively with you through the integration process and to sharing our successes and challenges as we learn together.
